Love Without Condition or Expectation

The practice of offering devotion to a child regardless of reciprocation, rooted in Rabia's selfless love of the Divine.

Rabia
Why It Matters

Rabia al-Adawiyya taught that true love seeks nothing in return and expects no gratitude or recognition. In adoptive parenting, this concept transforms the parent-child relationship from transactional to transcendent. Rather than loving a child because they are biologically yours or because they meet expectations, you love them as an end in itself—mirroring Rabia's pure devotion. This dissolves resentment when children struggle with attachment, behavioral issues, or identity confusion. The adoptive parent becomes a steadfast presence offering unconditional presence, creating the safety needed for a child to gradually trust, heal, and belong. This love becomes the ground from which all other parenting decisions flow, shifting focus from performance to presence.
