Love Without Condition

A practice of expressing affection, support, and blessing independent of agreement, approval, or alignment with parental values.

Rabia
Why It Matters

Central to Rabia's teaching was love of the Divine without seeking reward or avoiding punishment—love for its own sake. This translates to adult parent-child bonds as the capacity to love someone fully even when you disagree with their choices, beliefs, or life direction. Conditional love—"I'll accept you if you believe this, become this, choose this"—creates distance and resentment. Unconditional love doesn't mean approving all choices, but it means the core relationship remains intact regardless. Parents can maintain their own values and boundaries while still offering genuine blessing and care. This distinction matters profoundly: an adult child can know they are loved even when their parent disagrees with them. Such love often becomes the bridge through which influence and wisdom can actually be heard, precisely because it carries no coercive weight.
