Love Without Distinction

The practice of extending equal spiritual affection to all beings, regardless of status or proximity, to reveal how favoritism fragments the heart.

Rabia
Why It Matters

Rabia al-Adawiyya taught that divine love must flow universally, unmarred by preference or attachment to particular persons. In her tradition, favoritism represents a spiritual disease—a failure to recognize the sacred in every soul equally. When we privilege certain people over others, we betray the wholeness of love itself and create hierarchies that contradict pure devotion. This concept invites us to examine which relationships receive our best attention, which communities we marginalize, and how ego disguises itself as loyalty. By practicing love without distinction, we become aware of the subtle ways favoritism costs us integrity and distances us from truth. The practice requires honest self-examination and deliberate cultivation of equanimity across all relationships.
