Pure devotion inverts this: "I commit because this commitment is worthy, whether or not I receive recognition." This shift is liberating because it removes the resentment that corrodes belonging. When you fit in strategically, you accumulate grievances—you gave and didn't receive enough in return. Pure devotion resets this equation. You contribute because contribution itself is the point. In communities grounded in Rabia's example, members stop tracking the ledger of belonging; they show up from genuine commitment. This creates genuine belonging because no one is secretly bitter about the unfairness of their investment.
