Parasocial relationships

A parasocial relationship is a one-sided emotional bond where you feel intimacy with someone—a public figure, celebrity, or content creator—who doesn't know you exist; it can feel real because you're genuinely investing your attention and care, but it asks something of you that can't be reciprocated. Understanding this matters because these relationships can displace energy from the flesh-and-blood people around you, or they can offer real solace; the difference lies in whether they're replacing genuine connection or supplementing it.
