Radical Inclusivity Through Divine Love

The practice of extending community belonging to all people regardless of status, belief, or background as an expression of faith.

Rabia
Why It Matters

Rabia al-Adawiyya lived and taught in an era of rigid social hierarchies, yet her circles included the wealthy and poor, scholars and illiterate, men and women—a radical inclusivity rooted in her conviction that all souls are equal before the divine. She refused to accept the community boundaries her culture imposed. When building community intentionally, radical inclusivity asks: Who are we excluding? What unstated rules determine belonging? Rabia's model doesn't require agreement on doctrine or lifestyle but insists on mutual respect and recognition of shared humanity. Radical inclusivity challenges the common pitfall of intentional communities: creating in-groups that feel superior or separate. Instead, it invites openness to difference, curiosity about perspectives unlike our own, and structures that prevent power consolidation. Communities practicing radical inclusivity become laboratories for healing divisions that splinter society, modeling the possibility of genuine belonging across lines society says should divide us.
