Love Without Condition or Outcome

The practice of loving your child for their own sake, not for achievements, compliance, or who they're becoming.

Rabia
Why It Matters

Rabia famously rejected the idea of loving God for heaven or fearing hell—love itself was the only worthy motivation. Translating this to parenting means examining where you've made your child's safety feel conditional on their behavior or achievement. Attachment parenting requires that you demonstrate unconditional presence even during conflict, refusing to withdraw love when your child makes mistakes or disappoints you. This means responding to your teenager's failure with genuine support rather than shame, or staying emotionally present to your toddler's tantrum rather than emotional withdrawal or harsh punishment. Children whose love feels conditional learn to perform rather than belong; they internalize that their worth depends on external metrics. Conversely, when your child experiences that you love them in failure, anger, and mess, they develop intrinsic security. This framework doesn't mean permissive parenting—boundaries and consequences have their place. But it means maintaining the message: 'I love who you are, even when I'm setting limits on behavior.' This distinction creates truly secure attachment.
