Anchoring in financial decisions

Anchoring occurs when an arbitrary or initial number disproportionately influences your final decision, even when you consciously recognize it shouldn't—a salary negotiation anchored at your current pay, or a house price anchored by the listing. Recognizing your susceptibility to anchoring requires actively seeking independent reference points rather than trusting your intuitive sense of reasonableness.
