A daily reflective practice examining each financial decision through the question of whether it aligns with reason, dignity, and justice.
Building on Yacob's method of rational inquiry applied to conscience, this practice asks practitioners to regularly examine financial choices through three lenses: Does this transaction align with reason? Does it preserve dignity? Does it advance justice? This might involve weekly review of spending, questioning whether each purchase supports exploitation or fair labor. It includes considering lending practices, investment choices, and wage practices through this ethical framework. The practice resembles philosophical examination of conscience but applied to economic life. Yacob's own method involved rational questioning and testing ideas against reason and human dignity. Economic conscience practice extends this to our financial lives. Over time, this develops what might be called economic wisdom—the capacity to recognize how money functions as either a tool of domination or cooperation. The practice transforms money from something we use unreflectively into a domain of ongoing ethical practice and growth.
