Minimum wage debates

The minimum wage debate trades off against each other two genuine concerns: that workers need income to live on, and that forcing wages above market-clearing rates might reduce employment for the least skilled. The empirical evidence leans toward modest increases having minimal employment effects, but the debate persists because it hinges on a values question (whether markets should be constrained for dignity) that data alone can't resolve.
