A practice of pausing to examine money emotions rationally, transforming reactive financial behavior into conscious choice.
Zera Yacob elevated reason but did not deny feeling; he insisted on examining feelings through reason. The Reason-Feeling Loop is a practical tool for money anxiety: when you feel financial fear, shame, urgency, or denial, pause and ask: What am I feeling? Why? Is this feeling based on present reality or past trauma? What information does it contain? What action would my reasoned self take? This practice prevents reactive spending, avoidance, or self-punishment driven by unexamined emotion. It also validates feelings—they are real information, not character flaws—while ensuring they do not drive you unconsciously. Over time, this loop rewires your nervous system around money. Anxiety remains, but you develop a buffer of conscious choice between feeling and action. Mental health improves because you are no longer at the mercy of financial emotion.
