Sunk cost fallacy

The trap of continuing an investment—time, money, or commitment—because of what you've already spent rather than what will actually serve you going forward. Breaking free requires separating the past (which cannot be changed) from the future (which remains in your control), a distinction remarkably difficult to maintain under emotional pressure.
