How peer groups develop unspoken hierarchies that undermine their purpose

Our cohort started as eight people committed to meeting monthly to work on our businesses together but three people consistently dominate the conversation and the rest of us have gradually stopped bringing real problems because we know whose voices will fill the space. Everyone keeps showing up but I can tell half the group feels like they're watching rather than participating.

More people experience this than they realize.

What we've seen

A group designed for mutual support has stratified into performers and audience without anyone choosing this dynamic explicitly.
