My research partner and I are writing about voter suppression and we're both committed to rigorous scholarship, but I think our analysis needs to explicitly name white supremacy and she keeps pushing for more 'neutral' language that she says will reach a broader audience. Every draft becomes a negotiation about how direct we can be about power and I'm exhausted by having to argue for calling things what they are.
