When academic teams avoid confronting problematic high-performers

My research team has one member who consistently takes credit for collaborative work and interrupts others in meetings, but they're brilliant and productive and our advisor clearly favors them. The rest of us have talked about it among ourselves but nobody wants to rock the boat, and I'm tired of watching our group dynamic get worse while we all stay silent.

More people experience this than they realize.

What we've seen

Power hierarchies and fear of conflict allow harmful behaviors to persist when the person causing problems is seen as too valuable to challenge.
