When book clubs become therapy groups and members have different comfort levels

Our book club has been together for five years and lately every book we read seems to spark these intense conversations about whether we're living the lives we actually want, but some members think we're getting too personal and want to stick to just discussing the books. I love the deeper conversations because they're helping me think through this major life transition I'm in, but the group is splitting between people who want to keep it literary and people who want to use it as a space to process our midlife questions.

More people experience this than they realize.

What we've seen

A community formed around one purpose is organically evolving to meet deeper needs, creating tension between members with different expectations for shared space.
