Our Buddhist study group has been reading about emptiness and interdependence but half of us are interpreting 'no-self' as meaning our individual perspectives don't matter while the other half insists that denying our lived experiences is spiritual bypassing. The conversations are getting heated and people are starting to avoid the group because we can't seem to integrate these teachings without invalidating each other.
More people experience this than they realize.
A dharma community is fracturing over whether embracing no-self means transcending personal identity or whether that interpretation itself becomes a form of spiritual bypassing.
