When couples lose joy while documenting indigenous knowledge together

My partner and I started this project to document my grandmother's Yoruba plant medicine knowledge before she passes, but we keep getting bogged down in whether we're being respectful versus academic versus practical and we've lost the joy we had when we first started gathering her stories. We used to laugh with her for hours and now our conversations feel stilted and careful and I think she can tell.

More people experience this than they realize.

What we've seen

Sacred work has become so heavy with responsibility that the lightness that made it meaningful has disappeared.
