When parents and teenagers lose their shared comedic language

My teenage daughter and I used to share the same sense of humor, but now she finds my jokes cringeworthy and makes fun of my attempts to be funny in front of her friends. I know this is probably normal adolescent development, but losing our comedic connection feels like losing access to who she is, and I don't know how to stay close without trying to make her laugh.

More people experience this than they realize.

What we've seen

A parent must navigate the loss of comedic intimacy with their child while respecting their developmental need for independence and different cultural references.
