When families stop rough play because kids think they've outgrown it

My teenage kids used to love roughhousing with me and their dad — we'd have these epic living room wrestling matches and pillow fights that would leave everyone breathless and laughing. Now they're 'too old' for that stuff and claim they don't want to anymore, but I catch them sometimes looking wistful when we talk about those times, and I wonder if we gave up on physical play too easily when they started acting like they were above it.

More people experience this than they realize.

What we've seen

You're all pretending that growing up means abandoning physical play, but the longing for that kind of connection hasn't actually disappeared.
