When parent-child humor traditions become awkward as kids grow up

My teenage son and I used to trade movie quotes and make up ridiculous voices together, but now that he's older he acts embarrassed by our silly traditions and shuts down when I try to engage him the way we used to. I don't know if this is normal teenager stuff or if I need to find a new way to connect with him that feels less childish to him.

More people experience this than they realize.

What we've seen

The evolution of family relationships threatens cherished bonding rituals built on shared silliness.
