How to navigate T-shaped skill development when your team has mixed results

Our engineering team decided to all become more T-shaped by learning about product and design, but three months in, some people are thriving with the broader exposure while others are struggling and falling behind in their technical work. The whole initiative is creating tension and I'm worried we're going to abandon it entirely instead of figuring out how to make it work for everyone.

More people experience this than they realize.

What we've seen

A group commitment to broadening expertise is fracturing under the weight of different learning capacities and competing priorities.
