When translation groups can't reconcile craft and politics

Our literary translation workshop meets monthly but we're split between people who think we should focus on technical craft and those who believe every translation is political and we need to address power dynamics. The tension is getting uncomfortable and some members are checking out, but both approaches feel necessary.

More people experience this than they realize.

What we've seen

A learning community is discovering that different members' approaches to translation work reflect fundamentally different beliefs about art, politics, and responsibility.
