When activist communities conflate personal boundaries with political commitment

My community organizing group is incredibly tight-knit and supportive, but lately I've been feeling like I can't have a private thought or personal struggle without it becoming group business, and when I try to create boundaries people act like I'm not committed to the cause. I believe in our work but I need some parts of myself to remain my own.

More people experience this than they realize.

What we've seen

Communities built around shared purpose can become totalizing, making it difficult to maintain individual autonomy without being seen as betraying the collective.
