When family memory projects reveal forgotten contributors

My mom and I started working on a family cookbook with all our relatives' recipes, but we discovered that some of the 'family' dishes actually came from people who aren't blood relatives or whose contributions have been forgotten. We're both excited about the project but struggling with how to credit stories and recipes when the origins are complicated.

More people experience this than they realize.

What we've seen

Two people are learning that documenting family traditions requires confronting how easily certain voices get written out of the stories that families tell about themselves.
