When social groups lose their sense of purpose

Our book club has been meeting for eight years and somewhere along the way we stopped talking about books and just gossip about people who aren't there, and I think we're all kind of ashamed of what we've become but nobody knows how to change it. We still show up because we love each other but I'm not sure that's enough anymore.

More people experience this than they realize.

What we've seen

Habit has replaced intention, and intimacy without purpose has curdled into something smaller than what brought them together.
