How to rescue discussion groups from becoming ideological echo chambers

Our book club started as a way to discuss literature but over the past year it's become this echo chamber where certain viewpoints are automatically dismissed and people who don't share the dominant perspective just quietly stop participating. My co-host and I founded this group to encourage thoughtful discussion but we're watching it turn into exactly the kind of intellectual bullying we wanted to avoid.

More people experience this than they realize.

What we've seen

The desire for intellectual safety can calcify into intellectual tyranny.
