How to address addiction within a friend group

Our friend group has been together since college but one person in our circle has become increasingly difficult to be around when they drink and we all know it but nobody wants to be the one to bring it up. We're starting to plan things without them and it feels terrible but so does pretending everything is normal.

More people experience this than they realize.

What we've seen

Collective avoidance of hard truths can preserve the illusion of harmony while slowly poisoning connection.
