How to navigate community disagreements about Indigenous coming-of-age ceremony protocols

Our youth group has been planning a traditional coming-of-age ceremony for several of our teenagers, but some of the elders feel we're moving too fast and missing important protocols while some parents think we're being too rigid about old ways that might not serve these kids. The ceremony is in two months and we're all committed to these young people but can't seem to find our way forward together.

More people experience this than they realize.

What we've seen

A community is struggling to balance respect for traditional knowledge with contemporary needs, while the young people they're meant to serve wait in the tension between generations.
