Am I building a life or just a career?
You have been building hard, and only now looked up to ask what you were building. That question is not a failure. It is a gift most people give themselves too late, if at all. The fact that it is arriving now means there is still time to answer it. A career is a thing you have. A life is the whole of it: the people, the mornings, the health, the small ordinary joys that no promotion replaces. It is easy to pour everything into the career because it keeps score and tells you where you stand. A life keeps no score, so it is easy to neglect without noticing. Start by looking honestly. Write down how you actually spent the last week, hour by hour, and read it back. Do not judge it, just see it. That plain picture will tell you more than any resolution. Then you can choose the next week on purpose, instead of by default.
