Did my career build anything lasting for me?

You can put an array on any roof, in any weather, and make it hold. That is mastery, and it is yours. No boom handed you that skill; your hands earned it one job at a time. Start by giving yourself that much. The worry is whether riding a busy trade built anything lasting for you, or just for the companies you worked for. It is a fair thing to ask. But lasting is not only a building with your name on it. The skill lives in you. So does the reputation you carry, the people you trained, the roofs that will still be quietly working long after you have moved on. If you want something more clearly your own, you can build it now while the work is good. Set aside a little each month, learn the business side, or start taking your own small jobs. You have the harder skill already. Adding the ownership piece is the easier half. Pick one step this month and begin.
