How do I balance the roadmap, the data, and real user needs?
You have learned to listen, and now you feel the real tension of the job: the roadmap says one thing, the data says another, and the actual human need is a third. Living in that pull is uncomfortable, but it is not a sign you are doing it wrong. It is a sign you are doing it honestly. The bad products come from people who only listen to one of the three. The tension does not resolve into a formula. The roadmap gives direction, the data gives evidence, and real user need gives the point of all of it. Your job is to keep holding all three without letting any one silence the others. The data can be misread, the roadmap can go stale, and the user need can be missed if you only stare at numbers. Keeping them in conversation is the actual work. When the pull gets confusing, come back to one grounding question: what does the person using this actually need right now? Let that be the tiebreaker when the roadmap and the data disagree. The other two serve that need or they are just noise. Keep the human at the center, and the tension becomes something you steer with instead of something that steers you.
