How do I carry home the hard judgments I make?
You hold two things most people never have to balance in the same breath: mercy and justice. Getting that balance right, again and again, is a heavy craft. And then you carry each one home, quietly, where no one sees what it costs you. That is a real and lonely weight. The carrying is not a flaw in you. It is the price of taking the work seriously, of never letting a person become just a case. The day you could set it down easily is the day the job would have changed you for the worse. That it stays with you means you are still doing it right. Still, you cannot pour from an empty cup. Find one place to lay the weight down that is not your own family. A trusted colleague, a counselor, a private practice of your own. Carrying it home is human. Carrying it entirely alone is more than anyone should have to do.
