How do I carry the compromises I made trying to protect the planet?
You spent your career trying to protect the earth from inside systems built to resist that very goal, and every small win came wrapped in a compromise. Now the weight of all those compromises has settled on you. That heaviness is not a sign you failed. It is the honest residue of fighting a hard fight in rooms that did not want it fought. Be fair to the person who made those choices. You did not have the power to win cleanly, so you won what you could, a little more protection here, a little less harm there. Perfect was never on the table. The real question is not whether you compromised, but whether the world was better for your being in the room than not. It almost certainly was. So set down the standard that says only total victory counts, because that standard only produces despair. Name the specific harms you actually prevented, the wins the compromises bought. Carry those beside the regret, not underneath it. You cannot undo the deals you had to make. You can honor the good they still managed to protect.
