How do I cope with being depended on but unseen at work?
You can run any infrastructure, and it has made you the person everyone leans on and no one sees. That is a particular loneliness. Your work is so woven into everything that it disappears, and you along with it. Being essential and invisible at the same time is a real weight, and you are right to feel it. Here is what is worth remembering: the not being seen is the shape of your kind of excellence, not a sign you are unappreciated as a person. The systems hum because of you, and that quiet is your signature. But you are still a person, not just a function, and you need to be known, not only relied upon. So let someone see you, not just your output. Tell a colleague or a friend what you actually carry, the weight and the skill of it. And ask yourself whether the people who depend on you know your name and your life, or only your usefulness. Being depended on is not the same as being cared for. You deserve both.
