How do I cope with my craft dying out before I can pass it on?
What you can do with your hands, machines still cannot fully match. You feel a thousandth the way most people feel warmth or cold. And you are watching that knowledge thin out, with fewer hands reaching for it than there are years left in yours. The grief is real. You are mourning something that deserves mourning. But a craft does not have to be passed to everyone to survive. It survives in whoever you reach. One apprentice who carries even part of what you know keeps the line alive. The fading you see is real, yet it does not erase what you give to the few who still want it. So give it deliberately. Do not wait for a perfect student or the right moment. Find one person who shows the smallest spark and start teaching them now, roughly, imperfectly. What you hand over will not be everything. It never is. But it will be more than nothing, and that is how every craft has always survived.
