How do I deal with feeling alone as a leader?
You carry things you cannot set down in front of your team or your peers, and that private weight is starting to wear you thin. This is the part of leading no one warns you about. The isolation is real, and feeling it does not mean you are doing the job wrong. It means you are doing a hard job honestly. Some of the weight genuinely is yours alone to hold. But not all of it. Leaders often assume they must carry every burden in total silence, and that assumption is what turns solitude into isolation. There is a difference between not dumping on your team and having no one at all. You need at least one place to be a person, not a role. Find one confidant outside your chain, a mentor, an old colleague, a peer at another organization. Someone who has no stake in your decisions and can just listen. Reach out to one this week. You do not have to solve the loneliness all at once. You only have to stop facing it completely alone.
