How do I deal with feeling obsolete as younger people rise?

Their tools, their references, their easy fluency all feel like signs the field is moving past you. You built your identity on being current, and that ground is shifting. The fear is real, and it deserves an honest look rather than a pep talk. But being current was never your only value. You carry judgment, perspective, and the memory of what has been tried before, things no newcomer has yet. The field changes on the surface faster than it changes underneath, and much of what you mastered still holds. Fresh is not the same as wise. You can learn some of the new tools; pick one and start this month. But do not try to out-fresh people half your age. Offer what only time can give: steadiness, context, mentorship. The rising talent needs exactly that. Your role is changing, not ending.
