How do I explain my military experience to civilian employers?

It feels like your whole record got left at the gate, like the things you were good at do not count out here. That is a painful place to stand. But the worth did not disappear. You just have not yet learned the new words for it, and that is a skill you can build. What you actually did was lead under pressure, solve problems with lives on the line, and keep going when it was hard. Employers need exactly that. The trick is to stop using military terms and start describing the plain human thing you did: you trained people, you managed risk, you owned outcomes. Say it in words your grandmother would understand. Pick one thing you did in uniform and write it in a single plain sentence, no rank, no jargon, just what you accomplished and who it helped. Do that a few times and you will have your own language for your worth. The value was always there. You are just learning to translate it.
