How do I explain technical things to non-technical people?

It is frustrating to understand something deeply and watch it not land with the person in front of you. But notice where the difficulty really sits. You know the thing. What is missing is the bridge from your world into theirs, and building that bridge is a skill of its own, separate from the expertise. The trap is starting from how the thing works. Non-technical people do not need the mechanism; they need to know what it means for them. Start from why it matters to them, in words they already use, and leave the inner workings out unless they ask. Before your next explanation, find one everyday comparison for the idea, something from ordinary life that behaves the same way. Lead with that, then connect it to what the person actually cares about. You are not dumbing it down. You are doing the harder work of translation, and that is a gift to the listener, not a compromise.
