How do I figure out what insurance my business needs?
Not knowing here is not carelessness. Nobody teaches this. You are running a business and suddenly expected to understand a whole field on your own. The good news is that the answer is more knowable than it feels. There are two layers. What the law makes you carry, and what wisdom makes you carry. The legal layer depends on your state and whether you have employees; workers' comp is the common requirement. The wise layer is general liability, which covers the everyday mishaps that could otherwise cost you everything. Most small businesses need some version of both. Take one step this week. Find an independent insurance agent and ask them to walk you through what your state requires for your kind of work. Bring a plain description of what you do. You do not have to decide anything on the call. You are just turning a black box into a list.
