How do I figure out what my job offer is really worth?

Getting an offer full of equity and benefits you do not understand is more common than anyone admits. It is not a sign you are behind. These packages are dense on purpose, and the excitement of an offer makes it even harder to slow down and read carefully. The worth of an offer is more than the salary line. Equity may be valuable or may be worth little for years. Benefits can quietly add or subtract a lot. You are allowed to ask plain questions before you decide. A good employer will answer them, and how they answer tells you something too. Write down every part you do not understand and ask about each before saying yes. An offer you understand is the only one you can truly weigh.
