How do I figure out who actually wants what I'm selling?
Marketing to everyone feels safe, like you are not shutting any door, but it is why nothing lands. A message for everyone speaks to no one in particular, and people can feel when something is not really for them. Narrowing down is not losing customers. It is finally being heard by the ones you have. The people who actually want what you offer already exist. Your job is not to convince the whole world, it is to figure out who leans in and give them your full attention. Somewhere out there is a specific person with a specific problem you solve better than most. Find that person clearly and the vague crowd stops mattering. So start with who you already have, or who you would most want. Pick your best few customers or the people your thing helps most, and write down what they have in common: the problem they had, the words they would use, where they hang out. Aim everything at that person for a while. It will feel narrow. That narrowness is exactly what makes it work.
