How do I find the insight that actually matters in my data?
You can analyze and report; the harder step is separating the one finding that should change a decision from the many that are merely true. A report full of accurate numbers can still say nothing. The skill is not more analysis. It is knowing what question the data is meant to answer. Insight starts from a decision someone needs to make, not from the data itself. When you begin with what would change if we knew this, the noise falls away and the few numbers that matter stand out. Data without a question in front of it produces facts, not insight. Before your next analysis, ask the person who will read it: what decision are you trying to make. Aim the whole report at that one question. The insight that matters is the one that changes what someone does.
