How do I get back to the work I'm actually good at?
You trained for the craft and now spend your days on everything that surrounds it. That is a real loss, and the quiet you feel where the work used to be is grief of a kind. The thing you are good at has gone silent, and part of you has gone quiet with it. Some of the admin is the tax of being trusted with more; it will not vanish. But not all of it is truly required, and much of it expands to fill whatever room you give it. The craft will not fight its way back on its own. You have to defend a place for it, on purpose, the way you would defend anything that matters. Block one hour this week for the actual work and guard it like a meeting you cannot miss. One hour of the real thing will remind you why you came. Protect that hour, then grow it. A career made only of the work around the work is not the one you signed up for.
