How do I get recognized for the value I bring in procurement?
You save the company millions and watch someone else get the applause, and you are stuck fighting to be seen as strategic instead of "the person who buys things." That is a familiar sting for good procurement people, real impact, low visibility. Feeling unseen does not mean your work is not valuable. It means the value is invisible in a way you have to make visible. The problem is that savings are quiet. A cost you avoided never shows up as a win the way a sale does. So you have to tell the story yourself, in the language leaders care about. Not "I negotiated a contract," but "I freed up this much for the business and cut this much risk." Same work, framed as strategy instead of shopping. The framing is the fight. Start putting numbers on your wins and bringing them to the people who decide how you are seen. Speak in impact, not activity. Get into the conversations earlier, where strategy is set, not just handed a list to buy. You are already doing strategic work. Now make sure the room knows it is strategy, not errands.
