How do I handle being responsible for every department's problems?
You became the GM. Now you own every department's problems and corporate's demands, instead of the hospitality you were actually good at. The job you loved, making a guest feel cared for, got buried under owning everything that goes wrong across the whole building. Feeling stretched thin by that is not a flaw. It is an honest reading of the load. The hard part is that the buck stops with you now, everywhere. Housekeeping, the kitchen, the front desk, the numbers corporate wants, it all lands on your shoulders, often at once. And the warm, human part of the work that drew you in can get crowded out by a hundred problems that have nothing to do with a guest's smile. That trade is real, and it is fair to miss what you gave up. You cannot personally fix every department, so lead through people instead of trying to be everywhere. Build department heads you trust, set the standard, and let them carry their piece. That frees you to keep a hand in the hospitality you love, walk the floor, greet a guest, do the human part sometimes. Pick one department head to strengthen this month. You can run the whole house and still be the host you were meant to be.
