How do I handle feeling overwhelmed engaging with a community?
You are good at planning for people. Engaging with them directly is a different muscle, and right now it overwhelms you, all those voices, opinions, and needs coming at once. That does not mean you are in the wrong work. It means you have hit the part that stretches you. The overwhelm comes from feeling you must hold everyone's needs at the same time. You do not. Engagement is not one giant conversation, it is many small ones. You do not have to satisfy the whole community in a day. You have to listen to one group, then the next, and let understanding build in pieces. So shrink it. For your next project, pick one small group and just listen to them first, no fixing, no defending, only hearing. One good conversation will calm you more than a plan for a hundred people. You already care about doing right by them. Let that care move one relationship at a time.
