How do I handle one person who dominates team meetings?
One voice fills every meeting, and slowly the others have gone quiet. You have seen it happen and let it ride. That is understandable. Stepping in feels awkward, and the loud person is not doing anything obviously wrong. But the cost is real: you are losing the thinking of everyone who stopped speaking. You are the one with the standing to change the shape of the room, so the silence is partly yours to answer for. This is not about shutting anyone down. It is about making room. A good meeting is not the strongest voice winning. It is the best thinking coming to the surface. Try one small move next meeting. Go around the table on purpose, or say, I want to hear from a few people we have not heard from yet. You can even talk to the dominant person privately and kindly. You do not have to fix the whole thing at once. You just have to open the door.
