How do I hold my boundaries under pressure?
You have learned where your boundaries should be, and now comes the harder part: holding them when the pressure is on. Knowing the line and defending it are two different skills, and the second one takes practice you may not have gotten yet. Do not mistake the difficulty for failure. Boundaries feel almost impossible under pressure because saying no in the moment triggers guilt, fear of disappointing, fear of what happens if you push back. Those feelings are loud, but they are not commands. A boundary that only holds when no one pushes is not really a boundary. The whole test is whether it stands when someone leans on it. Start with one small line and hold it once, even though the guilt shows up. Notice that the guilt comes, and that you survive it, and that the world does not end. That single experience teaches you more than any resolve. Boundaries are a muscle, and it grows only by being used against real resistance.
